THE 98th academy awards
In 2026 I had the immense pleasure of having a strong creative impact on the visual style of the Oscars set design at the Dolby Theatre, Hollywood.
Working with Hello Charlie, I worked to design up a beautiful and calming set design that acted as a photorealistic set extension, blurring the lines between physical set elements and digital screen content.
THE SET
The brief given to me by the client for this project was to be a calming atmosphere amongst all the chaos in the world, so inspiration from zen gardens and boutique wellness retreats was garnered. The set consited of a large alcove upstage screen as well as the 5 movable tower structures shown below. Well also worked with prosceniums further forward that diffused LED screens behind physical rice paper bamboo structures. WOrking with this diffusion created an exciting chalenge of using light, contrast and colour to emphasize certain shapes and structures, creating a striking visual hybrid between the physicality of the set’s structures and materials and ultra high resolution LED panels.
